Birds of Sattal
Sattal, meaning "Seven Lakes," is a richly biodiverse birding hotspot nestled in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, at the foothills of the Indian Himalayas. Known for its temperate forests, freshwater lakes, and peaceful surroundings, Sattal offers an incredible variety of both resident and migratory bird species. This gallery includes iconic Himalayan birds such as the colorful Red-billed Leiothrix, striking Kalij Pheasant, Great Barbet, and elusive Spotted Forktail. The page also features charming forest dwellers like the Green-tailed Sunbird, Rufous-gorgeted Flycatcher, Yellow-bellied Fantail, Himalayan Woodpecker, and Black Bulbul. Raptors, woodpeckers, laughingthrushes, parakeets, and treecreepers are all beautifully represented — including species like the Slaty-headed Parakeet, Greater Yellownape, Bar-tailed Treecreeper, and Asian Barred Owlet. Whether you're drawn to the White-tailed Rubythroat or the energetic Blue Whistling Thrush, Sattal is a true paradise for bird photographers.
