Birds of Bhigwan
Situated along the backwaters of the Ujjani Dam on the Bhima River, Bhigwan is often called the “Bharatpur of Maharashtra.” This vibrant wetland habitat is a key wintering site for migratory waterbirds and a rich mosaic of grasslands, mudflats, and open water. This collection features the spectacular Greater Flamingos, flocks of Bar-headed Geese, and rarities like the Taiga Bean Goose and Pallas’s Gull. The wetland scenes are complemented by a wide variety of birds such as Eurasian Spoonbills, Painted Storks, Glossy Ibis, Black-tailed Godwits, River Terns, and Caspian Terns. Raptor sightings include the Short-toed Snake Eagle and Brahminy Kite, while the surrounding grasslands host Indian Bushlark, Yellow-wattled Lapwing, and Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse. Bhigwan is a must-visit for bird photographers seeking dramatic landscapes and dense bird activity during winter.
